KIDNEY DONATION

Living Donation

When a living person donates an organ is known as Living Organ donation. Living donation includes Blood related or unrelated transplantation. The blood related donor can be a family member, such as parent/children/brothers/sisters/spouse. Living donor transplants are done between family members who are approved by the law. A better genetically match lessens the risk of rejection. Living donation can also come from someone who is emotionally related to the recipient such as a good friend, spouse (Living unrelated donor).

Non Living Donation or Cadaver transplantation

Individuals who have been declared brain dead and their families have made the decision to donate their organs.

A kidney from a living donor usually functions immediately, making it easier to monitor. Some non-living donor kidneys do not function immediately, and as a result, the patient may require dialysis until the kidney starts to function.

The potential donor needs to undergo a health evaluation process. Dr.Pathak follows an evaluation process for both donor and recipient. Potential donors can be tested ahead of time to find the donor who is most compatible with the recipient. The transplant can take place at a time convenient for both the donor and recipient.
